Wow, it has been quite a while since I have posted anything at all. I assure you, that is not for lack of things going on, but because there has been precisely too many things going on. I’ll try and do a brief overview.
The family has successfully moved to Hampden, ME. We arrived at our new home on Sunday, October 22. A lot has been accomplished the past two weeks (mainly due to the fact that Dara’s mom came with us to Maine and stayed here for 10 days helping to unpack and watch Q-Man) and we should be in good shape before Dara starts her new job on November 27. It has been very nice living close to the modern amentities of daily life. Our house, according to locals, is in the boonies, but that just means we have to drive 15 minutes to get to Bangor – oh the horror.
Quincy didn’t seem to be fazed at all by the move. His room is all set up and decorated, but most importantly, the house has a “loop” which he can run around all day long. I think having Ashby around makes any move easy for him. Ashby, on the other hand, has never been good with change – especially recently. He’s doing better now that he has a yard to run around in, but he still gets anxious about us leaving. Thank goodness for baby-gates and Prozac.
One thing we wanted to take care of straight away after getting here was getting Quincy to his new doctor. Her practice was closed, but our realtor said he could get us in to see her (which he was correct about). Our main reason for taking him was to have his face looked at for his eczema. They also do 15 month well-baby visits. There’s not much more we can do for his eczema except to keep it covered with vaseline or eucerin most of the time. If it ever gets worse or spreads, then we might have to see a dermatologist. There was one slight wrinkle at this visit.
Quincy has quite a loud heart murmur. This was brand new news to us since his other doctor had never mentioned one or written about one is his visit notes. I guess it is fairly loud because the doctor could hear it not only from his chest, but also when she was listening on his back. Most likely, it is the kind of murmur that will clear up on its own, but to be sure, Quincy is seeing a pediatric cardiologist today at 2pm for an echo of his heart to make sure there isn’t anything majorly wrong. The doctor seemed to think that if there was a major problem, then he wouldn’t have developed normally. As it is, Quincy is in the 90th percentile for height and still around the 20th percentile for weight (he eats a ton though). So, when we know something, we will pass along that information.
When I get around to it, I’ll post some pictures from Maine and whatnot. I had forgotten how much fun settling into a new home was. Oh, can somebody tell me why milk in Maine is 4 bucks a gallon? I’ve switched to 87 octane gas since it is cheaper. I have read that Maine has the highest tax burden of all 50 states.
Don’t forget to vote tomorrow – unless you’re gonna vote Democratic – then feel free to skip it. 😉
