Did a little back end work for the site. I know, there’s no photos – those links are dead. Deal with it.
Soccer Game
Quincy’s soccer team is not as good as last year. I think we were spoiled by that. He still enjoys the games though. I took this video this morning with my new phone and then cropped it down in size for the site. I didn’t zoom in because I wasn’t sure how well the camcorder worked.
Lamoine Beach
In keeping with the really nice weather we’ve had on Saturdays here in July, we decided to take Quincy down to Lamoine Beach. We’ve been there a handful of times and it is a great beach that gets very little traffic mainly because Acadia is close by and Lamoine State Park is near also. I biked down to the beach early Saturday morning and did, in fact, beat them there – granted it was a one way trip for me, but still.
The water was very cold, but felt good since it was a warm day. We spent a lot of time looking for and catching the little crabs that were darting around the water. We had quite a collection at one point. So after spending some time at the beach, we decided to head into Ellsworth for some lunch and shopping. Lunch was very yummy and the ice cream afterwards was even better!
A nice weekend day trip wouldn’t be complete without pictures and a video.
Down to Massachusetts
I had wondered how to break up the monotony of summer vacation for both Quincy and myself and I figured, what better way than to take a road trip. Keep in mind that I’ve never gone away by myself with Quincy. I wasn’t worried about being the only parent with him, but I was a little nervous about how the 4 hour drive down to Massachusetts would go. Our destination: to visit the Townsend clan in Leominster, MA from the 5th through the 8th.
The drive down was actually uneventful for us. Quincy did great in the car and it set a good tone for the rest of the trip. Brady had some good stuff planned for us to do during our visit. On our first full day there, we went to Davis Farmland in Sterling. It is a farm, duh, that has been converted into a giant zoo basically of farm animals from all over. Quincy enjoyed feeding the goats and sheep, even if some of them were obnoxious about getting into his cup of food. They also have a water park area for the kids. The park is really for younger kids, so it was nice to just let Quincy and the girls go off and play in the water – especially since it was so hot that day.
The next day was more outside fun – Old Sturbridge Village! I’ve been there before – like, when I was a little kid and did not have many memories of the place. The old-time feeling was kinda lost of the kids, but it was still pretty cool for us old folks. We took a boat ride, a horse-drawn carriage ride, and walked all over the place. We got to see and hear a man fire off a musket too – Quincy liked that a lot. It was another long day of walking in the sun, but well worth it – especially since the Townsends have a pool at their house! The best thing about the pool, for Quincy, was the fact that he could touch the bottom while still keeping his head above water.
We left on Friday after having much fun visiting. All the kids got along, plus we got to hand deliver birthday presents for Cassie (turning 5) and Alex (turning 3). The ride home was smooth too – especially after Portland. Why? We stopped for lunch and also to get Quincy a little something special for having such a good attitude and trip. It was a Lego kit. He basically sat in the back with it on his lap and looked at it for the 2 hours it took to get to Bangor. Hmm, who needs in-car videos?
The four videos below were all taken at Davis Farmland.
