Quatros Meet Thomas

My neat creations never seem to last long. Some sort of natural disaster always occurs after about 15 minutes or so. Since I liked my bridges that I made, I thought I’d snap a few pictures of Quincy playing nicely with his trains. I watched a show on the evolution on the suspension bridge last night – thus the two towers. Lego doesn’t make anything I can use for cables.

Here are the photos over in the gallery

Book on Tape

As you all already know, Quincy loves books. It doesn’t take him long to memorize one and “read” it back to us. One set of books he’s had for a long time. They are by Todd Parr (thanks Parnins!). Before his nap today, he had me read about 7 or so books. After we were done, he wanted to recite one of the Todd Parr books back to me. He did it correctly and then I thought, “Hey, I should probably record this.”

The book he “read” to me is called Big & little. One important tidbit to know is how I read it to him. I use a deeper, louder voice for the big things and a softer, higher voice for the little things. Quincy does a great job mimicking this effect.

In case you can’t understand him in the beginning of the audio clip, here is how the book goes:

BIG TRUCK…..little tricycle
BIG ELEPHANT…..little ant
BIG BANANA…..little peas
BIG SKYSCRAPER…..little doghouse
BIG CAKE…..little cookie
BIG TREE…..little leaf
BIG MOMMY…..little baby (he says Quincy)

We are proud to present Todd Parr’s “Big & little” as read by Quincy Alexander Rock:

‘M’ and ‘R’

For the past several days, all I have been hearing from Quincy is, “Daddy look for ‘M’ and ‘R’. What happened to them you ask? I have no idea. Quincy loves playing with his Sassy brand bath alphabet and numbers – except we never have used it in the bathtub.

The other day he was flingin’ ’em all around the living room. There aren’t a lot of little cracks and crevices for them to hide in, but ‘lo-and-behold, when Quincy went to do his alphabet in order, he stalled out at ‘M’. I did a quick inventory and noticed we were shy the ‘R’ also. On the face of things, one would think it was no big deal. For Quincy, however, it is a big deal. He loves his letters, his alphabet and spelling words. He can currently spell, DOG, CAT, ASHBY and QUINCY all by himself. Once he ran into the ‘M’ conundrum, he was stuck and became fixated on daddy finding them.

I did a hard target search of every bin, couch cushion, chair, rug, bookcase and Ashby’s pooh – okay not that last one. My search turned up empty. I have no idea where they are and they aren’t small either, that’s the strange part.

My he’s-driving-me-nuts-with-the-letters-bit came to a head yesterday when the first words out of his mouth after his nap were, “Daddy find ‘M’ and ‘R’.” Nope, daddy didn’t find them. Instead, daddy did what a lot of parents have done when a favorite toy is missing or incomplete – I bought more.

We drove to Target today and they only had the Munchkin brand letters. They look similar, but I wasn’t about to throw a toddler’s world into that much chaos. Thankfully, Toys ‘R Us had the Sassy brand and I scooped up two more bags of the letters – for when he can spell words that have the same letter more than once. So now we have a reserve bag that is already depleted of the letters ‘M’ and ‘R’ and the number ‘1’ – have no idea what happened to that one.

So that was our morning – papa nerd taking care of his nerdling.
