Owls
Dara was off from work the week of Quincy’s birthday. We were helping our church with the VBS in the evenings, but wanted to find some short trips we could take during the day. On this day, Tuesday the 14th, we drove down to Ellsworth to visit the Stanwood Wildlife Sanctuary. The main thing they do at this place is to keep wounded birds – either to be rehabilitated and released or kept there to live in a safe environment.
The main draw for us was the fact that they had owls there and you, faithful readers, know of Quincy’s love for owls. Sure enough, there were owls aplenty. They looked more like animatronics than anything else – with just their heads swiveling and eyes blinking. Although, the large Great Horned Owl named Hooty would hiss at us when we got close.
Quincy spent a lot of time just running between two Great Horned Owls. When we were able to drag him away from the owls, we took a nice walk on one of their many nature trails. After fending off the bugs and seeing the owls again, we drove to Friendlys for a nice lunch and then headed for home. I’m sure Quincy’s nap was filled with thoughts of owls.
Quincy’s Birthday
If you have checked the site the past few weeks, then you’ve noticed very few changes. There are reason for that which I won’t get into, but I’m now in the process of getting everything caught up. The Timeline is updated and there are more pictures and one more post to follow.
Quincy’s birthday was August 15th, but due to scheduling and such, we had his birthday party on Saturday, August 11th so that Grammie and Grampa Rock could attend. They had travelled up to Maine and done some camping near Acadia National Park before coming to the house. Quincy and I went over to the campground one day – he really liked the camper – especially climbing up and down the tall steps to get inside.
So, for his birthday, we had a leisurely breakfast and then got down to him opening his gifts. He showed quite a bit of interest in opening the packages. As you already saw from the pictures, he really liked the toys that were given to him. It did take a little while to open his presents because of how he got fixated on one thing for a while, but that was to be expected.
After we were all ready, we drove up to Old Town in order to go to a cool park there – the one you see in the pictures. Quincy had a great time running around and climbing, going on the slides and watching the other kids. Once that was done, then we went to lunch and finally home. The cake was served after supper and Quincy still doesn’t like to eat cake. He, however, really likes ice cream – so that meant extra cake for everyone else.
Even though it was a small gathering, it was a good time for Quincy. If you’re reading this and haven’t seen the images from that day, then you better head on over there, eh?
Breakfast Fun
Quincy is almost two and with that is coming more things I need to be aware of – more specifically things that I do and say. He doesn’t repeat everything he hears, but it is getting to the point where he will parrot a lot of words – especially when you think he isn’t listening. Having Quincy parrot my words isn’t what drew my attention yesterday and today at the breakfast table. Nothing like have a child make you reexamine how you run your life. 😉
Yesterday morning, us men were enjoying our Cheerios, toast and juice – same as this morning. In fact, here’s nice picture I took of Quincy this morning when he was almost done with his cereal.
It is safe to say that I don’t really pay attention when I do certain things – things that are so deeply entrenched within us that we do them without thinking. Well, I did something yesterday and today at breakfast that I have done forever and never give much thought to. What is that you ask? Well, take a look at this other picture I took of Quincy this morning and you will have your answer…..
So there you have it – I now have to officially think before I do anything………only if Quincy is around though. 😉
