Will Walk for Food

Quincy is walking – and not your typical Godzilla/Frankenstein/Arthur the alcoholic walking either. When he moves, he moves with a purpose and with as much grace as an 11 month old can have. Today at Dara’s office, Quincy must have covered almost 20 feet before plopping down onto his rear. When it was time to “perform” for the whole office staff, he stood up and just stared. Typical.

Quincy is becoming more opinionated about, well, almost everything that happens in his life. It is very interesting to see his personality excert itself onto the world.

I had every intention of writing a bunch of stuff here tonight, but my brain just seemed to lock into neutral. It is a little after midnight and I can’t sleep – apparently I can’t think as well. Hmm, wonder what I’ll do now. Just 6 short hours before he wakes up whether I’m ready for it or not!

Haircut

Quincy received his very first haircut today. It took all of 5 minutes – this was mainly due to his compliance during the procedure. He sat in mom’s lap holding his Pooh hairbrush and was good to go. We didn’t have much done. The main concerns were: the hair that was in his eyes, the hair over his ears, and the long scraggly hair in the back. Mission accomplished on all three fronts. The timing was nice too as it has been very humid here today, and he woke up from his last nap very wet on the head.

I would say that Quincy can now pass for a baby of 13 months instead of 11. 🙂 I took a few snapshots at the event and have posted them on the haircut page. Enjoy!

Site Changes

For those of you with keen eyes, you will notice a couple subtle changes at the site. We decided to stop the weekly pictures once Quincy reaches the age of 1. After that, we shall take monthly pictures and post them, you guessed it, under the Monthly Pics tab at the top of the screen. The birth announcement, which used to be one of the tabs, has been moved to the Photos page (just in case you can’t remember his birthday).

I’ll be brainstorming about how else to improve and change the site around, but they won’t be big changes. We have been very pleased with how it has gone so far during his first year. Thanks to all who read the site!

Hiking

We got to do something we haven’t done in a long time this past Saturday – go hiking. There are really only so many places that a stroller can go before it just becomes impossible, or should I say impassable. I had been researching the backpack style baby carriers recently, and the one we purchased came last Thursday. It was time to take the maiden voyage.

We weren’t real sure how Quincy would react to it. We put him into the carrier once in the house and that wasn’t pretty. It didn’t help that the carrier has about 400 adjustable straps to fiddle with. So on Saturday, we decided to drive up to Letchworth State Park, the self-proclaimed “Grand Canyon of the East.”

The pack has tons of storage space and looks to be very comfortable for the one riding in it. We got Quincy in the carrier as quickly as possible, and he started whimpering and fussing. Once I was able to get the pack on my back, Quincy stopped his whining and was actually enjoying the view from way atop dad. I, however, was in agony. The pack was no where near adjusted to my body. After about 5 minutes of hiking or so, we had it adjusted just perfect that it wasn’t bothering me at all. The only thing that was bothering me was my son pulling at the back of my baseball hat as we walked.

Quincy seemed to really enjoy being out in the wilderness and looking at the streams and trees and such. His mom and dad, however, were pretty tuckered out after the hike. We look forward to taking him on more hikes while still in New York and then really doing some exploring once we move to Maine.

Dara took some pictures on our hike. You can either go under the Photos section or just click here to jump right to them.

Today I added one new video of Quincy playing around in the kitchen with a cracker and posted his weekly picture as usual.
