Philly Phun II

Last time on Philly Phun: we arrived safely, but with a crying baby, stressed mom and an irritated dad.

After I exited the vehicle in the hotel pull thru driveway, one of the guys outside approached me and asked me if I’d like to self-park or use the valet. I mean, really, was I going to self-park after what had just happened? I don’t think so. Choosing valet made sense and would be easy on all of us (except on the day we left). Now, however, I had a new problem – the hovering parking attendant. He never said anything to make me feel rushed, but he was making me feel rushed. Dara had disappeared inside with Quincy to check-in and try and calm him down. I was left with a trunk full of stuff and a backseat full of even more stuff. A combination of my being tired, grumpy and feeling rushed, I didn’t get everything out of the car before it was whisked away. Crud. Continue reading “Philly Phun II”

Philly Phun

I am going to do our Philly trip in a few posts, simply so that I can remember everything. This first post will deal with just getting from Wellsville to Philadelphia.

We left on the morning of April 5th. It was flurrying in Wellsville, but nothing to make the driving difficult. We did not get an extremely early start to the trip and because of that, we had to make our first stop for Quincy’s feeding in Mansfield, PA. So we got a good 1.5 hours of driving under the hood at that point. We fed Quincy at the local McDonald’s. It only took me three trips to and from the car for the things that we needed for him. Side note: I can remember back when Dara and I traveled BQ (before Quincy), that we each had one suitcase and maybe one other bag. Now that Quincy is on the scene, I see that we need a whole support crew to pack the car. How should an almost 8-month old need so much stuff? Okay, on we go. Continue reading “Philly Phun”

PJ’s Are Fun

Since Quincy is still well under a year old, he cannot go to bed with any blankies or other toys due to an increased S.I.D.S. risk. So, what is a boy to do to keep himself amused while lying there awake? He has his fish mobile that he can look at and the squishy part of it that he can reach, but that only works for so long. He occasionally will play and chew on his feet, but that isn’t very exciting either. What is the answer: cool PJ’s.

It might be hard to tell, but these are Baby Einstein jammies. The neat part is that there are characters on the tops of his feet. His rightt foot is covered by a dog, complete with ears. His left foot has a duck. We’re not sure how much he plays with them in the crib, but he definitely plays with them before he goes to sleep – as you can see here. Thank you, Shelly for the jammies!

Mr. Handful

I don’t know what switch flipped in Quincy’s brain since he turned 7 months this past Wednesday, but he’s definitely needed closer supervision as of late. He is highly mobile now – he rolls, scootches, pivots and crawls backwards. He can cover quite a good amount of distance in not very much time.

Today, there were two notable incidents: 1) After having his 9am snack of cereal and milk, Quincy gets water from a small cup. He is usually pretty good at drinking. This morning, he decided to inhale a huge amount of water. He looked up at me from his high chair with a look of panic in his eyes. He was not able to spit the water out, and he also couldn’t move air in or out. Being the calm, cool, collected person that I am in a crisis, I simply unclipped his buckle, leaned him forward some and patted his back with a good bit of force. The water proceeded to come out of his nose and his mouth. He seemed to be no worse for the wear. He did want more water after that, but I figured that was enough of that. From this time on, we give him his water in a sippy cup with the plastic regulator removed so that it flows easy – he can’t suck with much vigor yet from a cup.

2) After Dara got home tonight, we were all in the kitchen talking. I gave Quincy a bottle of pre-natal vitamins to play with while he was in Dara’s arms. He likes things like that that make noise when you move them. Dara decided that it was too big, so she gave him the little bottle of aspirin instead. He really liked shaking that around. I guess he liked it so much that he took the top off and dumped about half the bottle on the floor of the kitchen. We were both shocked when it started raining aspirin! I have no idea how he got the “child-proof” lid off. The only thing we could think of is that Dara hadn’t put it back on tight from this morning.

So, while we really like Quincy getting older, we’re seeing that it comes with its own new set of issues. How many years to college? 😉
