Quincy Turned Five

Hard to believe that Quincy is now a 5 year old. What is even harder to realize is that he will be starting school in just over 2 weeks. Am I ready to be an empty nester? I don’t know!

We celebrated his birthday on the 14th, which was a Saturday, because he had been sick for a couple days prior. That way, we could just lounge at home and he could have fun with his presents. You can check out the photos from the day in the gallery, per the usual.

Dara took her annual photo of Quincy in the big brown chair with his bear as well.

Quincy and Sports

It was a nice couple of months lately. This was Quincy’s second World Cup, although I’m sure he has zero recollection of the one four years ago. For about a month, we watched soccer on an almost daily basis. They were on at great times and, if you know soccer, the games have no commercial interruptions save half-time. Spain won the World Cup for the first time ever. What was going to fill the void after that? Easy. Le Tour de France.

Now, you can’t get much more esoteric as far as sports on TV than by watching soccer and cycling. But, for whatever reason, those were two events that Quincy enjoyed watching. He watched the Tour for the same reason most of you watch NASCAR – the crashes. I would watch for the actual biking. What better way to kill 4-5 hours in a morning than by watching guys pedal bikes? Okay, I admit it, I DVR’d every stage and watched just the good parts. Sprint finishes are cool and the mountain stages are fun to watch all the attacks. In the end, our man, Andy Schleck, of Team Saxo Bank came in second (again) to the Spaniard Alberto Contador .

I don’t know how widespread the Radio Shack commercials are on “regular” channels, but on VS, they were on quite a bit. I have inserted Quincy’s favorite (and mine too). Cracks us up every time we saw it, and Quincy would make me stop the DVR just to watch it. I’m just glad I don’t look like that in my bike attire. I don’t have the Radio Shack stuff, but I did buy the Team Saxo Bank bib shorts and jersey for my 100 mile ride.

Lubec Trip

Last week, Dara was off from work. We had nothing big planned except for little trips here and there. One trip was over to Lubec, Maine. We dropped Molly off at her kennel and drove over on the 15th. Our first stop was West Quoddy Head Lighthouse. There is a stone monument there that tells you you are standing on the easternmost point of the United States. The lighthouse is one of the most photographed in Maine. I took a bunch of pictures, including some from way out on the rocks looking back. If it had been high tide, then I would not have gotten as many good pictures.

There are several trails around the park, and we decided to go on a short hike. Quincy had a blast on the hike. The views were really nice and reminded us of Acadia. You really can’t beat the rocky coast of Maine.

We stayed one night at an inn in Lubec. The inn was okay, but was right on the water. The view from our room was of the tree in the back. Oh well. The funny thing was that the owner of the inn breeds Berners. One of her Berners hangs out in the inn and her name was Dara. No, I’m not joking. It was pronounced differently, but no doubt about her name. Funny. If we go back, we know that Molly is more than welcome. I proudly showed off her picture.

The picture gallery for this trip should be in chronological order. We spent some time walking along a rocky beach in Lubec looking for sea glass and other “treasures”. Nothing like bringing home a lot of sea junk!

The next time we go back to Lubec, we’ll be heading into Canada for sure. Right now, though, we don’t have Quincy’s passport and if we had gone there, then we’d still be there now. Not sure when we’re going back, but we will.
