With an expected 10-18 inches of snow, Quincy is bracing for the impact of yet another storm, dismissing schools early and declaring a snow emergency to run from noon today until 6 p.m. on Thursday.
Early dismissals will vary, depending on the school, but range between 11:05 a.m. and 12:50 p.m.
Despite snow, City Hall and the Thomas Crane Public Library are scheduled to remain open throughout today.
The snow emergency does mean parking restrictions will apply – something many city residents haven’t been abiding by, Quincy police said.
In the last storm, police towed 86 cars, a low number compared with storms prior, where over 100 cars were towed off main roads.
Parking rules will continue to be enforced for this storm. As before, no parking is allowed on either side of emergency arteries.
Residents on side streets are allowed to park on the even-numbered side of the street.
According to the city website, “vehicles in violation of winter parking rules will be towed at owner’s expense. Also, if your vehicle is hampering snow removal operations (i.e. parked too close to an intersection, etc.) it will be towed.” Towing fees run upwards of $125 per offense plus the cost of storage.
