Moose Point and Belfast

This trip to Moose Point State Park and over to Belfast almost never even happened. If you look at the date, you’ll see it was on a Saturday. Typically at this time of year, I have a group bike ride on Saturday mornings at 8AM. This day, I was pretty sure there wouldn’t be anyone coming, but I decided to head to the Hampden pool and wait (our gathering spot) to see if anyone showed up. Because I didn’t think anybody would, I started coming up with other plans in my mind on where I could bike and how Dara and Quincy could meet me.

Obviously, nobody showed up. I called Dara and we put our plan into action. I was able to beat them to the park mainly because I was ready to leave at once, while Dara had to gather up all sorts of stuff for the outing with Quincy. We splashed in the water, which was very cold, and climbed all over the rocks. After spending a fair amount of time there, we headed just down the road to Belfast to get lunch and walk around.

It was after lunch while we were sitting down at the water’s edge that I spotted a seal very, very close to us. We got some pictures of it and had fun watching it swim around. It wasn’t very big and we wondered if it was lost or sick. Either way, it eventually just submerged and disappeared from view. Oh, I didn’t bike home – it was a planned one way trip. 🙂

Fort Knox Revisited

This morning, I asked Quincy if he wanted to go over to the Bog Walk in Bangor. It’s always a good idea to get him outside and burn off some of his extra energy that he always seems to possess. He said he didn’t want to go there, but wanted to go to Fort Knox. I wasn’t surprised that he said that simply because we passed the signs for it the other day when we took Molly down to the dog park in Belfast.

So, off we went to Fort Knox. Quincy was excited because he was going to get to carry his own flashlight in the dark parts of the fort. We explored all the underground parts and the outside areas too – took about an hour. It was a warm day, and Quincy was done and ready for lunch after that. I decided to take a video of Quincy leading the way through the darker parts of the Fort – that’s what you are seeing below. Enjoy!

Literacy Night at McGraw

Tonight was Literacy Night at Quincy’s school. Oddly enough, however, they didn’t do any reading, but instead acted out a number of nursery rhymes and sang a bunch of songs. I guess what made it a literacy event was the book fair that was going on in the cafegymatorium. Quincy picked up a few new titles for his library and then we went to his classroom. We sat in the little kid chairs. Not cool.

I did take two videos in the classroom. They are both on the same page which you can find here.

Florida Rocks

The title of this post could mean so many things, but is just so happens to mean that Uncle Bill, Aunt Melissa and Jonathan came up to Maine for a visit. The weather forecast was not very good before they got here, but it turned out to be a very nice weather weekend – albeit a little cool at times (for the thin blooded anyways).

We were curious as to how Jonathan would react to Molly, our huge Berner. Well, he didn’t have any problems with her. Molly just wanted to lick his face all the time. We didn’t let them interact too much simply because she is so big that she could hurt him by accident.

The cousins had fun playing and hanging out. We enjoyed a late dinner out at Texas Roadhouse in Bangor. We did that on Saturday so as to avoid the rush for Mother’s Day. Well that plan didn’t work at all. Turns out, there were graduations that weekend too. Luckily for us, our server, Danica, was great and the boys did very well even though it was late. Quincy missed his bedtime by quite a bit, but he survived.

We took them to Quincy’s school playground on Mother’s Day since it was so nice out. There were very few people there so they boys could run and play all they desired.

Quincy had a great weekend and is looking forward to heading to Florida – tentatively scheduled for his February break of 2012.

Lots of pictures were taken, naturally. Have a look in the gallery.
