Donald Duck

Okay loyal readers – we’re gonna run a contest of sorts here. We got a toy recently that features several Disney characters, including Donald Duck. The gist of the toy is thusly: one pushes, pulls, or turns a switch and the Disney character pops up from whatever type vehicle it is in. For example, Mickey is down in a train, so each flip of the switch cycles thru 3 sounds. Clear?

Now for the interesting part. We have no idea what Donald Duck is saying. He pops out of a boat and says something quite unintelligbly. I captured that sound for you:

Our best guess (and we know we’re wrong on this) is that Donald says: “Sieg heil!” Now, we’re not sure if Donald is a closet facist, but we’re looking for somebody to come up with something more sensible. Remember, it is most likely boat related.

By the way, the pictures from the tree harvesting are up now.

Christmas Tree Harvest

This year was the first year that we took Quincy out to kill a Christmas tree. Yes, we had a real tree last year – we cut it down from our yard in Wellsville – no fuss, no muss. This year, we were going to take Quincy out to a tree farm and cut one down. One thing I can tell you about Maine – there are tons of tree farms up here. We saw a nice add in the paper for one in Newburgh – a town next to ours. So, last Saturday AM we got all geared up and headed out the door.

We had a finite amount of time since we went before Quincy’s morning nap, but figured we could get it done in time. This tree farm was huge. It had basically three types of trees to choose from: Balsam fir, Douglas fir and Scotch pine. It was an easy choice really – balsam fir – can’t go wrong there. Since we had snow, Quincy was decked out in his boots and did some walking, that is, until he fell a few times and then Dara carried him for a while. I would say that the hardest part of it all was picking the tree – mainly because there were so many good trees to choose from. We finally made our selection and I cut the sucker down.

After hauling it back to the car and securing it on top, we went down to the area where they have the wreaths and a craft shop type place (heated). Inside, one could help themselves to doughnuts (one per person please), coffee or cocoa while perusing the wares for sale. Besides the tree, we got one wreath and an ornament. I couldn’t believe how cheap the tree was either – $28 for a very nice tree. I remember paying much, much more in New York for a tree – must be because there are so many in Maine. This tree farm will ship you a 6 foot tree for $70 – any takers in Florida? 😉

Quincy hit the wall on the way home and fell asleep in the car. Once home, we did get the tree up and decorated. Quincy has shown some interest in it, but for the most part, has left it alone (thankfully). I figured my days would now consist of guarding the tree from him. His favorite ornament on the tree is the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever Angel (we got it in Nova Scotia).

It was a fun outing this past Saturday, and I do have pictures which will be available soon. I am tinkering with the photos section at the moment, so I’m not sure when they’ll be available for viewing.

Our New England Trip

Yup, the trip was over two weeks ago. Yup, the post is going to be short – mainly because some of the details have been lost. Yup, I’ve been busy doing other things. And lastly, there just aren’t enough hours in the day to get done what I want to get done. The Timeline area continues to be a good thing – makes me put something there every day or so. On with our trip…

Before Dara started her new job (which she did yesterday), we had wanted to travel “down south” to visit some friends and their new family additions. So, we left our house on a Friday and arrived back on Tuesday. The first leg of the trip was spent in Massachusetts visiting the Townsend family: Brady, Tracey, Cassandra and Max (woof). It was really nice to finally see Cassie in person, having only ever seen her in the digital form. I had forgotten what it was like to have a 4 month old. I can’t say I’m anxious to go back there soon. Cassie was great – nothing against her – just that stage of life. Here’s a nice picture of the spouses and kids:

After having visited Massachusetts, we headed down to Connecticut to see the Parnin clan: Frank, Stephanie, Mary & Samantha. They had been out to see us in New York shortly after Quincy was born, but we had yet to see Samantha in person. We all had a really nice time catching up and enjoying the controlled chaos that comes from trying to corral 3 kids. Here’s a cute picture of Stephanie holding all the kids:

We had a great time on our journey and Quincy did very well with all the travel and varied sleeping locations. I’d like to apologize for the brief write-up – that’s the problem with waiting so long to do it. We won’t be traveling anywhere anytime soon. Our next scheduled visit is Grammie and Grampa Rock coming up over Christmas – so look for more posts then. I’ll continue to post brief blurbs in the Timeline section as things occur – and they always do. 🙂
