I’m Radioactive!

Quincy has been having back and knee pain for several months. There have been no obvious answers at this point and, after having gone down to Portland to see a rheumatologist, he had to have a bone scan. Fortunately, we could do that at St. Joseph’s Hospital (Dara’s employer) here in Bangor. Bone scans fall under the auspices of Nuclear Medicine. I liked the sound of that.

So, today was the day for that. I tweeted a bunch of things earlier, which you can read on the home page if you are so inclined. Basically, they inject a small amount of a radioactive isotope – which only has a half-life of 6 hours – and then they use a giant scanner to detect the gamma particles. The picture with this post is the exact scanner that was used. The test was a piece of cake for Quincy. One needle prick and then just lying still as the machine hovered all around him. Having had an MRI before, I would have much preferred this, as the machine was virtually silent. The technician was great with Quincy and he kept referring to his test as the “fun bone scan” test.

His first test was at 10am and then later at 1pm. The afternoon tests were long since they wanted additional views. Not sure what this will show, but I’d bet nothing. Just my gut feeling.

What a Find

Today was errand day for us. Quincy usually doesn’t like to go and do errands any more, but we had a bunch of stuff to get done in Bangor. One of the things I wanted to do was check the L.L. Bean outlet for a new backpack for him. The one he has now is more of a hiking backpack and doesn’t hold a lot of stuff real easily.

They had lots of backpacks. I checked the ones that were returned since that’s where you save the money, but in the case of backpacks, the returned ones were all monogrammed. I gave a quick glance at some of them, but gave up until Dara and Quincy came over to look at them. I then did a more thorough examination of the greens ones, and lo and behold, I found one that was monogrammed Quinn. Now, what are the odds of that? Not only did we save ten bucks on the pack, we then had a very, very happy boy with us the rest of the day. He’s so excited to take his bag to school on Monday. So just because you might have a unique or less common name, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t look for it on returned items!

Molly’s 1 Year Photos

Once again, we found ourselves having to take pictures to send to the breeder. It is hard with Molly, since she is very happy and all over the place. The only way to get good pictures is for one of us to hold treats and the other takes the pictures. That is why most of the pictures are of Molly looking up. It is not possible to get a picture of her lying down – unless she is sleeping.

It is hard to get an idea of her size, but, trust me, she’s big. She can just about rest her head on our dining room table with a little effort. Fortunately, she gets to stay in the kitchen while we eat.

February Photo Roundup

I have also added the February photos. As you can see from the pictures, more snow, and more snow. Quincy also likes to set up his bears to have school. I guess he can’t get enough of that during the week when he is in school.

Quincy also took the bus home for a few days in February – just ’cause he wanted to. He did fall asleep on the bus the second day and I had to go on to get him, but other than that it was no big deal for him.
