Some Good Things

Yesterday was a good day for Quinn. When I was changing his diaper in the morning, I noticed that the umbilical cord remnant had fallen off. Silly me, I asked Dara if she wanted to save it. The look she gave me was a “why would we save that?” kinda face. This means we can now use his little tub to give a bath. He tolerated his two sponge baths just fine. Now we’ll see how he does with the tub upgrade.

Also yesterday we decided to take Quinn outside in his cool baby carrier (thanks grammie R.). He needs to get used to that since I will be using it to take him and Ashby out on walks once Dara is back to work. We can safely say that the walk was a success. He enjoyed the fresh air for a little while and then zonked right out. When we got back and put him down to sleep more, he woke up and wanted a drink – tough work being in the sun!

Quinn continues to gain weight. Dara is now breastfeeding 100% on demand since her supply has fully come in. We weighed him this morning and he is up to 8 lbs 1 oz – surpassing his birth weight by a whopping 5 ounces. We have a follow-up appointment tomorrow with his pediatrician to make sure his weight is okay (which it is now).

We received a gift last night from him as well – sleep. For some reason, he decided not to wake up until 5:40am, and he went to bed at 11 something. Both Dara and I are feeling well rested today. We’re sure it was just a fluke, but we’ll take sleep any way we can get it!

One Week

Well, we feel like we accomplished something, simply because we survived the first week. Last night was a challenge though. We think Quincy got a little overstimulated during the day because he was very hard to keep asleep for any long stretch of time once evening came. Things are going smoother now, however. Dara is now able to feed him on demand while he keeps his clothes on! He had been falling asleep unless he was just in his diaper.

We did remember to take his one week picture for the photo area last night. It took me until this AM to get it posted. You can either surf over to that area yourself, or if you are lazy, just click this.

Formal Picture

We had Quincy’s “formal” picture taken the day that he and Dara were discharged from the hospital. They came in the mail today, so naturally I had to scan one in for all to see. 🙂

Also, the birth announcement appeared in our local newspaper today. I find it amusing that our small-town paper was able to get the information in so quickly, when it is going to take the Rochester newspaper about 3 weeks to get it into that paper. How hard is it to keep up with that kind of stuff?

Bottle Washer

Ah, the life of a new parent. It is currently 2:08AM and I just finished washing up some bottles. I think it is pretty amazing how the body adapts to the sleep deprivation that is forced up new parents.

Quincy has been good, so far, about not crying for no reason at all. We enjoy his awake time, albeit very limited awake time, and think he does funny stuff already. I crack up when he yawns. I didn’t think that somebody so small could yawn so big.

Dara and I went for a nice long walk yesterday afternoon. The poor woman had been cooped up inside for so long that she forgot what it was like to be outside. We’re hoping to keep up the walks while her mom is here helping us. I hear stirring up yonder – must mean he is almost done eating.

I can’t believe he is one week old in about 4.5 hours!
