Family Newborn Photos

Here’s our three newborn pictures:

Wouldn’t you know it, but he looks like both of us! Hardly a coincidence I think.

Things have been slowly getting better. We had a hard time yesterday and last night with breastfeeding, but, with some help and guidance, things are back on track. He has gained a lot weight in the past couple days. It is amazing how content a fully tummy can make a baby.

Quincy’s cousins, Isaac and Nathan, are coming to visit soon and we are excited for the kids to see him. Isaac wanted to see him in the hospital, but since he’s not a sibling, he wasn’t allowed – until we broke the rules. 🙂

Newborn Appointment

Phew, it has been quite an up-and-down ride over the past 24 hours. Quincy had his newborn appointment yesterday at 11:30am. Everything went fine at the visit except that his weight had continued to fall. When we left the hospital, he was down a tad over 6%. They generally don’t like newborns to lose more than 10% of their birthweight. Well, he was down to 6 lbs 15 oz. Even though he was nursing well, he just wasn’t getting enough food because Dara’s milk hadn’t come in enough. That has all changed now. Her milk is in and he is eating really well now. We weighed him this morning and he was up to 7 lb 1 oz. I believe that issue is on the upswing now.

Quincy is now eating more and sleeping a lot better now that he is not extremely hungry. I believe he has gotten even cuter over the past few days. It is amazing how fast they change from when they are born. Ashby is doing well with him also. He seems concerned sometimes when Quincy is crying, but in a good way. I’ve been sure to keep giving Ashby all the attention he is used to getting normally.

I think that about wraps up the past 24 hours. I may try and snap a picture sometime today if I can get one with his eyes open, but that remains to be seen. Thank you to everyone who has called and been praying for us. We really appreciate all the support we have received from our friends and family.

The First Night

To put it simply – could have been better, but could have been worse. Quincy did not sleep a whole lot last night. Ergo, Dara and I did not sleep a lot last night. On the plus side: Quincy is a champion eater and very cute. On the minus side: he isn’t sleeping like he should. We think it is just opening day jitters.

Quincy has his newborn appointment with his pediatrician today – who is in town and NOT Rochester. Yeah! Our goal after that appointment is to get Dara as much sleep as possible throughout the day. Between me and the two grandmas, that should be a very attainable goal indeed.

More news as it develops. 🙂
