Milestone

Quincy has reached 4 weeks old today. For some reason, that feels like a special milestone. We have survived thus far, feeling our way along. He has his first all day outing this past Wednesday. He did really well, and we really enjoyed being out of the house for a long time. We were even able to take him out to eat with us. He was good overall, but it helped that we went on a weekday for lunch at about 2:30 in the afternoon.

His four week picture is available for viewing today as well. Since he really likes to be held and moving, it is getting difficult to get him to not cry in the chair. We did manage, however, to snap one good picture before the floodgates opened.

Quinn is still enjoying his walks with Ashby. He usually falls asleep within a few minutes and then I just keep him in the carrier until he wakes up. I get pretty stiff after a while, but at least I can stay mobile. 🙂

It is hard to believe that 4 weeks has gone by, but things are getting better and we are settling into a routine of sorts. It is still weird to us that he is our offspring. Oh, he is also experimenting with smiling. He hasn’t flashed a full smile yet, but it looks like he will do that sometime soon. It will be nice to have a new facial expression rather than blank, crying, or sleeping.

Fall Feels Here

The weather has taken a very nice turn for the better here. It is no longer “hot” at night. To me, that means it is not in the 60s any longer at night. It was 40-something when I got up this morning. I always like September up North – it means the summer is basically over – that was never the case when we lived in Virginia. Quincy has enjoyed going on walks in his front carrier. He usually falls asleep before too long.

We haven’t ventured very far from home yet. We did take him to Dara’s office last Friday, not only to show him, but also to fax some stuff. We can hopefully work our way to longer trips soon.

Quincy is sleeping really well at night for some reason. He feeds very regularly during the day, but once he is put down for the night, he sleeps until the morning (usually). We’re grateful for the sleep, but it makes him more demanding of food throughout the day.

I have been playing around with the Movies section on the site. I have uploaded one movie thus far – basically just a test to see how things will work in that area. It is in MPEG-4 format and you typically need Quicktime to view those files. Some of you may already have that installed – if you do then you’ll be good to go. I tested the movie in both Firefox and IE – works fine. Oh, his sort-of-cranky three week photo has been posted as well.

Second Week Pic

Dara wondered if I was going to remind people each and every week that there is a new picture of Quincy in the week-by-week section. Well, I was going to, but I think that you all can remember to check there from time to time. Unless we are away, or something else has come up, you can expect his weekly updated pictures on Mondays.

When I update photo pages, it doesn’t send out an e-mail to subscribers – only new posts do that. So, this is your notification that his two week photo is up. I probably won’t remind you again, so remember to check there when you think about it.

Follow Up Appointment

Yesterday, Quincy had his follow-up appointment with his pediatrician to make sure that he was gaining enough weight since he was last seen. At his first visit, he weighed 6 lb 15 oz. At this recent visit he weighed 7 lb 15 oz! The doc was really amazed. He looked at him and asked if this was the same baby. He told us that the placenta is responsible for determining the birth weight of a baby, but once born, then the baby’s genes take over. So, Quincy is now trying to meet his genetic potential. No other issues were found, and we don’t need to go back until his 8 week visit.

For the past three nights, Quinn has been sleeping for longer periods at night. We’ve been most greatful for that, but are going to assume that will not last (at least not yet). He makes up for all the sleep at night by eating quite regularly during daylight hours.

We gave him his first baby tub bath since his cord remnant is gone. He didn’t love it, but he also didn’t hate it. It is neat how his hair gets all fluffy and a lighter shade of brown.

Last night, after having just changed Quinn, Dara brought him downstairs to chill out for a piece. I was sitting in a chair, Dara was on the couch holding him and Ashby was lying on the floor nearby. All of a sudden, there was an explosive noise that eminated from Quinn’s vicinity. Yup, you guessed it, a very loud bowel movement. What was really funny about it was that it startled the two of us, but it made Ashby start whining and pacing around because it scared him so much. We had a good laugh about that at the dog’s expense.
