Memorial Weekend Company

I have a bit of updating to do, so here goes…..

Dara’s dad came up from Maryland for a few days around Memorial Day. He earned his meals by using his chainsaw to cut down some dead trees we have bordering our yard. They really did stick out and we’re glad to be rid of them.

We played a quick 9 holes of golf also – I beat him for the first time which was nice since I hadn’t played golf in over two years. It was a good feeling. 🙂

It was a quick visit and Quincy wasn’t sure what to make of him since he’s only seen him a handful of times for short bits. Ashby, on the other hand, was very excited for the extra attention.

We did get a picture of grandfather and grandson together.

Bangor City Forest and Bog Walk

One of the neatest gems in Bangor is the Bangor City Forest with the accompanying Bog Walk that starts in Bangor and goes into Orono. Quincy has been there twice now – once in his stroller in November and then today. I purposefully left the stroller in the car because I wanted Quincy to get some exercise and have fun.

Here is Quincy standing by the signboard for the bog walk. He was very good about listening to me and standing still for his picture to be taken. He had already walked about 1/4 mile at this point and that is even before we hit the bog walk!

The walk is 1 mile long and takes you thru a wide variety of terrain. Here’s another picture I took of the walkway itself. There are also a good amount of placards up that explain the different animals and vegetation that you might encounter. We only saw birds – no bears today. 🙁 We do have a bear and cubs living across the street from us, but that’s another matter altogether.

Quincy managed to walk quite a distance by himself, but eventually he tuckered himself out and wanted to be carried. Part of my plan was not well thought out – he now weighs 26 pounds. He likes me to carry him on my left side – my weaker side. So, we took our time going back to the car – taking time to stop and sit at some of the many benches that were out.

It must’ve been good exercise because he has been sleeping for almost 3 hours as I write this. I do expect him to get up soon. I did upload pictures from our outing. You can find them under the Photos tab or just jump there now.

On a side note: I have fixed the Internet Explorer issue. If you still get it, make sure to clear your browser cache.

Need Feeback Please

Hey people, I’m trying (in vain so far) to track down an issue with the site and Internet Explorer. The problem I’ve seen is thus – you go to look at a gallery of photos and IE throws up an error at you about not being able to open the page…operation aborted – all the while the page has loaded. On pages where that happens, if you click OK, then you can see the gallery, but the footer has not been rendered. Sometimes, hitting the refresh button helps also. What I desperately need feedback on is who else is having this issue. Dara had the problem from her work computer, so I know it is not just mine.

Sad to say, but this problem may have been going on for a while and I never knew about. I use Firefox as my browser and it has no such issues. I only use IE when I absolutely have to – therefore the problem didn’t come to my attention until recently. So, please, let me know if you have problems. I’m not really sure what has changed on the site, but something has.

Thanks,
Steve (losing sleep over this one)

Fashion Guru

Quincy, who is normally quite the stylish little guy, really committed a fashion faux pas today. Let me back up just a tad – I took him to Old Navy on, Monday I believe, for some new short-sleeve shirts and to look for a pair of sandals. I got a bunch of shirts and we did find a pair of sandals that fit rather well. Thus far, he has only been able to wear them outside once because the weather has recently taken a turn for the colder. He really likes to wear them. He likes to play with the velcro straps. He likes to wear them inside. He doesn’t care what he is wearing when he wears them.

So, here you have it – Quincy wearing his sandals over his pajamas. Old people wearing sandals with socks isn’t quite as bad as this. He kept them on for quite a long time – in fact – until I changed him into clothes for the day. I have since hidden the sandals.

With the weather being cold and rainy, we have been spending a lot of time inside. Quincy usually finds plenty to do to keep himself occupied – it is dad that gets stir crazy with the same stuff day after day. So, yesterday, we made an outing to pick up some supplies to enhance the indoor experience.

Play-doh. Everybody remembers Play-doh. Quincy really likes to play with it. So, at Toys ‘R Us, I got the “barrel o Play-doh” – came with lots of molds, the fun factory, and other neat stuff. Quincy got a lot of mileage out of that yesterday. I did discover something about myself that I don’t like to admit – I’m a neat freak about certain things, and if you have played with Play-doh, you know that can be problematic. I don’t remember the fun factory being so messy. Egad, that was fun trying to get all the Play-doh out of. I also am not a fan of mixing the colors – thus the need to keep things clean. We’ll see if Dara has an easier time with that this weekend.

We also went to A.C. Moore to get some art supplies. I bought a roll of paper, a sketch book, and some washable crayons (just in case). Quincy has only recently shown an interest in coloring (scribbling at this point). The sketch book I got is one of those really big ones – plenty of real estate per page to scribble on. In fact, I had Quincy make a drawing today and have taken a picture for all of posterity. In truth, he spent longer putting the crayons in the box and dumping them out again. Focus, man, focus!
